• Wear your retainer for as long as you want your smile to stay straight! Continue to wear it at all times unless Dr. Hannapel or Dr. Pellillo instructs otherwise.

• Take your retainer out while eating and be sure to place it in its case. Most appliances are lost in school lunch rooms or restaurants when patients remove them before a meal. 

• Clean your retainer once a day. Do not brush with toothpaste, as the fluoride in the toothpaste can break down the material and make the retainer brittle. You can use hand soap or toothpaste suds with lukewarm water. Do not soak in any colored solution, such as Scope or Listerine. You may use white vinegar as needed. There are cleaning products available for purchase on Amazon (EverSmile WhiteFoam, Retainer Brite, or denture cleaner).

• NEVER wrap your retainer in a napkin; it can be easily mistaken for garbage and thrown away. We provide you with retainer cases, so please use them. 

• Always bring your retainers to your appointments.

• When your retainer is not in your mouth, it should always be in its case. Pets LOVE to chew on them!

• If you happen to lose or break your retainer, call the office as soon as possible for a replacement! We will help you with getting a new retainer.
